Drinking Water Status and Sustainability Presentation

The Beach to Bay Central Council of Civics bring a presentation on problems the Long Beach Barrier Island’s drinking water currently faces.

Thursday, June 23,2016 7:30pm

Long Beach Public Library Auditorium (2nd Floor)

Almost 4 years ago, when we published our post “Long Beach Drinking Water Meeting“(https://makingmypoint.wordpress.com/2012/10/11/long-beach-drinking-water-meeting/) this issue was being noticed.

At the time,  Assemblyman Weisenberg said this was “the most serious problem in the city’s history.” Two weeks later,  disaster in the form of Sandy struck, and there were more immediate items that we needed to attend to.

Can you imagine, our only source of nearly-free drinking water is neither protected nor managed to assure it remains clean, safe, and available- even into the near future?

Please attend to find out more.

Help Save the Point Lookout Flag Tower

The Point Lookout Community Church is on the grounds of the original U.S Life Saving/Coast Guard Station. The flag tower which is pictured, is the original flag tower and is over 100 years old.

It is in desperate need of repair and since it is of historic importance to the community of Point Lookout, we are asking for donations from our businesses, residents and friends. We need to raise $8,500 for the repairs and our goal is to reach that by April 1st so work can be started and completed by June 14th which is Flag Day! If we do not reach the desired amount the flag tower will have to be taken down.

We have started a GO FUND ME site and the link is https://www.gofundme.com/6rvq9pqs
If you prefer to mail a check please make the check out to the Point Lookout Civic Association and put FLAGTOWER in the memo section of the check and mail it to:

P.O. Box 900
Point Lookout, NY 11569.
Knowing how generous our wonderful town can be when help is needed, I am sure we can achieve our goal by the target date of April 1st.
Please be as generous as your means allow.
Thank you in advance,
