☢ Radioactive Cesium 137 found in Reynold’s Channel.

No “imminent” danger, but it all adds up, no?

Please check out this Article From Newsday : Radioactive Element Found In Reynolds Channel

Normally I would just share this on social media but when I read the article i have to ask:

  • what has been going on at Bay Park plant?
  • We know it came to light that people were actively seeking to get rid of radioactive Fracking waste through our treatment plants. is this related?
  • this radioactivity is related to human made nuclear fallout… didnt know we had that there!

To me, I can read beteween the lines pretty well here: The players parse words very effectively. let me translate:

EPA’s biggest concern seems to be “hey don’t blame us, we didn’t find it and nobody made us look for this and we’re still not going to”.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said about the high levels “that’s nothing! call us when it’s 1000 pico grams so we know we could pollute here and you never be able to tell the difference!

others postulate this is just a resuspension of sediments.

Doesn’t the resuspension of the sediments also dilute them further? i can’t imagine sod sized clumps disperse in clumps and re-settle elsewhere? And then that was just a big coincidence that’s what got sampled. seriously? I don’t know about you but I know if I had a bucket of sediment and water and I shook it up and re mingled that into the bay it would be pretty diluted.

so, the consenus with these quoted people is that it’s not a big concern because “it was part of the marine environment before” um. yeah after someone dumped it there.

In a rather strange coincidence, I shared this next unbelievable article and must watch Video report from the Tampa Bay Times on social media a few weeks ago, but facebook only showed it to about 40 people(dont get me started!).

This took place directly off our shores in the late 50’s:

USS Calhoun County sailors dumped thousands of tons of radioactive waste into ocean

so how long are 60 year old, concrete-filled 55 gallon drums supposed to contain that, much less the things that were just dumped outright….that (allegedly) included an unused Atomic bomb! and this cesium 137 would make sense then ?

Maybe I’d rather not find out.

Close That School – I Want My 38 Bucks!

eastschool

to accompany tonight’s school consolidation/ repurposing meeting

Guest Post by “Falter Ego”….

Long Beach schools are facing declining enrollment ~ another outlet just showed the current “repurposing” plans will save the average homeowner $38 a year!  Cut taxes?  Count me in!!!

We must slash the very services young families need most, so those young families can afford to live here!   What makes you poorer makes me richer, oppression is freedom… and all that!

It is not lost on me many of you young parents believe in this already!  Solidarity? Unity? um, er … lets get together..um let’s prove it’s every man for himself! What a great plan:

Making a family’s different children go to different schools and change to a different one almost every year is good!

  • eliminates an hour a day of learning, family, or homework time! Good!
  • graduations soar from grade to grade and school to school! All the graduation cards and gifts will drive our economy!
  • every kid must adjust, every year.  Learn isolation, submit and shut up, worry about the future at all times.  Good!
  • perfect to destabilize them to fail all the tests we’re demanding, to prove schools and teachers are no good.

It’s about time we make all those spoiled, do-nothing stay-at-home parents (im not sexist-that includes you slacker dads, too!) have to pick up and drop off their taker kids at two or three different schools simultaneously. Remind them what it’s like in corporate America!  Dumb idea from the top? Execute!  All so someone who won’t have to sacrifice at all, can enhance their six (or seven) figure income,  and put the consequences on you. This will keep them in touch with the workforce if they decide to return.

But maybe the most valuable life lessons will be for students

  • once you’ve got yours on the public dime you need to turn around make sure no one else has a chance at the same! Thats your right! You deserved it, they’re just takers!
  • if you can get a job, you will change jobs every year or two in order get ahead or a small raise to keep up with costs.  Lucky    “Deserving” ones won’t face downsizing and layoffs before finding the next job.
  • I got my pension from 25 years of 8 hour days completing 30% of the work you will do every day!  Just because you youngsters will make less now for 12 hour days with no pension, no retirement and probably no social security or medicare that I will have, as you will continue to pay for mine,  that’s your fault!   Don’t worry young parents, I’m looking out to make sure you “save” $38 dollars a year to keep you in your house!
  • Demand CUTS and ACCOUNTABILITY of everyone… but me!

Besides, why are we paying for these educations, anyway?   These kids have no chance of getting jobs-there aren’t any!

Cutting three nurses to two nurses is only a 50% caseload increase, to accommodate a 12% enrollment decline. Think of the HUUUUUGE savings of that, with no liability problems!  Well,  liability problems aren’t mine, anyway.  When something bad happens, we can use that for our political ends and just blame the nurses,  teachers, or administration!  TRIFECTA!

Heck, it just mirrors society’s overworked nurses, PLUS our local reality of no hospital anyway! We need to teach these kids to just get used to that!

All you drivers have it too easy – You have to save my taxes, too!

  • I like when you get stuck driving behind the buses. I imagine with glee the buses in both directions stopping traffic, now! Other buses will stop the buses you’re already stuck behind. Block After Block After Block.
  • Think of how well you will get to know your neighbors, chatting to them in the next car during this gridlock. It can only be good for the community as they relax together on their way to work!
  • Naturally, this creates no safety problems. When a child is run over,  that’s just a shame. Because, who could’ve seen that coming? It’s not like people are already breaking laws to get around the buses, drive 50+mph through the 20 mph school zone, pass stopped buses or literally throw things in addition to epithets at the cars who actually do stop for the stopped buses!  I’ve never seen any of those things!
  • Wow, I hadnt thought of it before, but we can get rid of a part-time crossing guard, too!  cha-ching!!!  Send me the $$$$$$$avings!

Best of all, the extra fuel for all this costs nothing and that cost is only going down all the time!

Quadrupling the annual mileage on our buses doesn’t cost anything either. When the buses only last one quarter of the time they were expected to last,  we can blame the schools, and push that cost onto the next generation through capital improvement bonds, not general taxes!  Best of all, those bonds will go onto the MUST PAY portion of the school budget pushing taxes higher, but ha ha-We have a 2% cap, so they’ll have to slash even more from education then, to pay for my $38 now… plus interest and depreciation!!

Besides, our kids need to toughen up socially and emotionally especially after being displaced to “luxury hotels” by superstorm Sandy!

Wait, you mean they will have to SPEND millions to move and “repurpose” and I won’t see any savings for 2-5 years depending on the plan? But I want my 38 bucks NOW!!! Its MINE!

And there’s no guarantee construction and IT installation costs couldn’t end up higher?   That didn’t happen last time!

Please ignore the Suffolk BOCES Post-Sandy report that says that elementary enrollment will go back up 3% over the next five years and go up near 5% over the next decade. That report did not include all the new multifamily buildings that have been proposed already in 2014,  500+ units just on one of those projects, plus numerous smaller ones running through zoning appeals right now as developers snatch up distressed or damaged properties and turn them into multifamily units.

I’m sorry what? You say the schools are OUR buildings and institutions that WE THE PEOPLE own for OUR use, that help define our property SALES values (not tax rates because it is all relative to neighbors’ houses) and provide for our future security etc?

I like bad ideas just like the next guy, so when someone said “taxes” and used buzzwords like “downsizing” and “consolidation”, my brainwashing kicked in, and my knee jerked so hard my foot chipped a tooth on the way into my mouth and all calm reasoning, facts and issues went out the window.

But nevermind reality- it’s never stopped me before!

I avoid all these consequences and socialize them to everyone else AND I get $38?   Close, I mean “repurpose” that school!!

Time to Act: LNG or Not

20130820-211341.jpg

The final in this LNG series.

These are the last days to make Public (YOU) Comments to the Maritime Administration by Thursday August 22, 2013.

These government employees and politicians are faced with paid professional lobbyists (and their pressure) on a daily basis but don’t get to hear much from the public. Probably one of the most pertinent quotes from a speaker at the hearing was Cindy Zipf, from Clean Ocean Action who said:

“By letting them know how we feel, we make it easier for them to say ‘no.'”

Remember : you have every right to make your voice heard.

Safety, air, water, environment, security, property, health :
If we are supposed to sacrifice these things in the name of something; some kind of benefit to ourselves, our community, our country, or mankind; no one has said what that benefit is.

Liberty Natural Gas is a fracking company / hedge fund based out of Calgary Canada with finances in the Cayman Islands – that is their business.

What could go wrong?

Well just since the hearing, lets have a look:

Right after my post on the exploding tanker, as if on cue, there was the “Disaster in Quebec”

24 dead, town blown up, company much less than helpful

Then, 2 days later, there was a real life “natural gas spill” in the Gulf Of Mexico

which “left a four-mile wide “rainbow sheen” on the water’s surface south of Louisiana, the Coast Guard said”

as the company yawned and said they’d get around to solving it in a few days.

Please can we get a pretty rainbow sheen for our waters, too?

See the story from CNN, “Coast Guard: Natural gas leak in Gulf.”

Then a week later this happened:

A second major spill –
“Wall St Journal: Gas-Well Blowout Revives Doubts on Drilling Safety”

That one they don’t know how to fix yet. Same problems as the BP oil spill -blowouts and capping problems.

I wonder about all the ones we’re not hearing about!

Oops, : Another secret massive oil spill where the media is being blocked out from filming, photographing and reporting anything besides what the company approves with help of government response teams :

Cold Lake oil spill leaking for months: Documents.

The same thing happened in the Exxon Arkansas neighborhood spill.

The company said it was too dangerous to have civilians and reporters in the area or helicoptering overhead so police and private security kept them out.

New information in that Arkansas Spill-
Exxon knew and didn’t care, kept pushing anyway ( I’m shocked!)

Environmental roulette so the few can get rich and cut and run in a disaster. If they’re caught, there is no criminal penalty and the fine is so small it usually amounts to a couple hours profits for these companies.

Pipelines and public lands – a bad connection!

I have found this industry article saying there is a connection between this project and the pipeline being jammed through the Rockaways, Brooklyn etc. so why isn’t the company forthcoming on this?

That Rockaways pipeline proceeds over public objections by running through public lands- the city’s at their Jacob Riis Park and the federal Government at Gateway National Park to avoid public intervention. I see a pattern here-

Will Jones Beach State Park be next?
It seems like its a real coincidence.

Washing up

Everyday, our beach has garbage wash up on it. Soda cans, tampon applicators, plastic bags, balloons are guaranteed -daily.

just everyday garbage that washes up on our beach. you think this project won't add to this?

just everyday garbage that washes up on our beach. you think this project won’t add worse stuff to this?

Where does all the garbage come from? Much is from garbage barges that are 10-20 miles away.

We are foolish not to expect to see the effects of this project washing up regularly. And even scarier would be all the things washing up that you can’t see!

Tanker explosions, wackos, changed earth orbits

Oh my.
I took some flack over my fictitious story about the LNG tanker exploding on other blogs etc. I even merited my first “wacko”(bows) and I’m going to show you this picture that was made available to me that I am not far wrong.

As you can see from this diagram from Sandia National Laboratory THEY say this is a potential disaster and needs to studied.

As you can see from this diagram from Sandia National Laboratory, THEY say this is a potential disaster and needs to studied.

An interesting speaker spoke at the hearing about this very subject saying the industry has only studied pin size holes in gas lines.
There are no studies on a breach of the tankers hull.
Another speaker, an attorney for Suffolk County said in her research into the last LNG port, she was given a copy of the Maritime college textbook which claimed that if an entire LNG tanker exploded it would be powerful enough to “knock the earth off its orbit”.

And here I thought I was just taking things a little too far in making my point! Maybe I didn’t go far enough.

Time To Decide

Thanks to CONCA (The Coalition of Nassau Civic Associations) for coming out AGAINST the project, forcefully. Read the letter at the link at the top.

Time is running out whether you decide or not, others are going to make their decisions. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson reminded us that “if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice”.

Of course, for both individuals and groups, silence will be taken as a

“yes, please give us your problem so you can offshore the profits to another country and leave our town on the hook for all the risk of your project, thank you!”

Make a statement on the official government regulators’ docket against the project on the links above.
I can’t stop you from copying and pasting that excellent letter from CONCA into those comments and adding your two cents… Just saying.

You can also find the Surfriders link here that will supply a downloadable opposition letter for you to make the case.

Please. Take. Action. Now!

It is obvious this is not going to be just our politicians or civic associations’ responsibility to do something about this.

It is our responsibility.

Please. Click the links above to let the government and everyone else know we do not want this.

Please. share this with everyone you know using the buttons below for email and social media.

Lets make people aware, lets unite and be heard.
Last chance!

****update: I came under fire for pulling info out of thin air, you know my “opinion”, so I have attached citations to nip that in the bud. ****

Wait, what?

Right now, Liberty Natural Gas is on a fast-track approval process to approve this port 19 miles off Point Lookout’s shore.

Point Lookout will be the closest inhabited community to the project,
And it seems like no one is even remotely aware of it.

I am dead set against it.

Before you whip out your oil and gas talking points, in my opinion :

Loop Parkway Motorcycle Lane?

20130530-190806.jpg

Someone phoned in a story to me- Another crazy accident on the Loop Parkway

It seems this morning on the Loop Parkway as drivers came up to the drawbridge, the lights changed, yellow to red, drivers slowed their cars and stopped as the gates lowered down.

As traffic slowed, like thunder out of the blue, up throttled a motorcyclist either unaware of, or trying to race the red lights and the gate’s descent.

He decided he was going to drive in between the cars that were stopping (you know annoying him going slow and all) and keep going over the bridge.

He hit himself at least one car, breaking off their rear view mirror, luckily not killing himself in the process.

And then, they say he seemed to try to take off!

He soon realized he couldn’t get by the bridge.

Not bad enough, he came back to bully the driver whose car he hit, a woman by herself. He said that she and the other driver squeezed together and didn’t let him through between their 2 lanes.

You know, his god-given right!

Another driver there stood up for that woman, they reminded him who hit who and made the guy give his victim his information etc.

I say Thank you for speaking up!

How you like that one?
